I'm writing this on 10th October: it's been nearly four months since I declined to change my icon to suit LJ Abuse, and my account was suspended. Indeed, counting from 6/6/6, it's been over four months since I moved to GJ.
So I think it's probably time to move on, and accept that I'm just most likely never going back to LiveJournal: Six Apart won, I lost, life's tough. I miss my friends-list on LiveJournal enormously, but trying to maintain it unilaterally on GJ isn't working.
Insofar as I have a friending policy, it's this. I friend people whose journals I like to read, and I hope people friend me for the same reason. I think people should friend and unfriend without needing to ask or apologise.
If you'd like me to friend you, comment here for me to friend you back and I most likely will. (My exceptions to this rule are usually people who have nothing in their own journal and whom I do not know. So if you were on my friends-list on livejournal, and created a greatestjournal account just to stay in touch with people over here, I'll certainly friend you back - but do mention what your username was on livejournal, if it's not the same as the username you're using here!)

Hi I'm here dmsherwood53 from LiveJournal. Friend me?

I'm guessing that that's why you've unfriended me, than?
(Reply to this) (Thread)
Yes. I'm not being unfriendly: just (as I tried to do on livejournal) keeping my friends-list for journals I read (though it all got a bit out of hand on livejournal after a while). But I'm finding it a bit disconcerting to have so many empty journals friended, so many people who read my journal but I'm friends-locked out of theirs. Especially, to be honest, Edinburgers.

Hello, long time no speak.
Have a bit of a favour to ask - I wouldn't, only I thought you might quite like to help, so don't feel at all obliged of course.
I'm writing an article for The Skinny on slash fiction. Just a sort of musing on what it's all about, what its purpose is etc. Nothing too groundbreaking, just a sort of gentle outsider-inside's opinion piece.
Anyway, that brings me to my favour, or rather, two potential favours, either or both (or neither) of which I'd be much obliged for you to do me...
Firstly, I have a short, rough sort of questionnaire-y thingie I've been giving to my slashing friends to give them a jumping-off point for talking a bit about why they're into/writing slash, where their interests lie, and so on, which if you liked I'd love for you to fill in/expand upon.
Second, the article (or at least the first (what's shaping up to be mammoth) draft of it) will contain a bit of history on how slash got started. I've checked the wikipedia entry on it for facts, but I know we've discussed in the past just where it all came from, and if you didn't mind, I can't think of a better fact-checker.
Might seem a bit cheeky to ask this of you given our past couple of encounters, I know, but I figured you're a gracious enough sort and might be genuinely interested in having some input - certainly I'd have felt weird not giving you the opportunity to voice your thoughts.

Re. last couple of encounters - I certainly said things now I regret: if the same's true for you, we could just bury the bones and move on.
But, if not, or either way: Sure, I'd love to help out with the questionnaire, and I'd be happy to fact-check the article. I'm off to Belgium Thursday, though, and while I will be checking my email while I'm there whenever I can, I won't be regularly online again till the weekend after next.

Hey, there's a familiar name!
I recall you as a friend-of-a-friend on LJ (I prefer to keep this poliblogging pseudonym separate from my personal blogging, so I hope you'll understand me not specifying) and I was always struck by how intelligent and thought-provoking your blogging was. Nice to see you're still going, even after leaving LJ - and with bloody good reason, I see.
I surfed in on you from DD's blog. Terrible how many jerks are attempting web intimidation to silence important voices, isn't it?
Keep up the great writing!

(Of course, replying to this unscreens it...)
Thank you!
I'm planning to do a Take Back The Blog post for 28th April, and I was thinking just of summarising all the bloggers I have heard of (and I doubt if this is all) who have been attacked by threats of rape or murder. Just off the top of my head I can think of three already, all this year.

Heya are you running the show at fandomtossed? Cause this just came out and I wanted it to be known: http://community.livejournal.com/lj_biz/2 41182.html
I'm just sorry that I don't have a GreatestJournal, but c'est la vie!

Hey, there! Your livejournal just popped back into existence--what happened? Are you back there? I'm here, now, and at Insanejournal, too. What's up?
(Reply to this) (Thread)
If I'd known you were here I would have added you sooner! *waves* *hugs frantically*
I had to get myself unsuspended to port my whole journal on livejournal across to insanejournal. I won't be back long.

*squeezes* I haven't been there very long--IJ and LJ started as boltholes and are looking like one or the other may become home, eventually. I'm campaigning against livejournal and ranting my ass off in my lj, at the moment. I'll friend you on GJ and I won't on LJ since you'll be leaving there, again. Yay for old friends in new places! :)

Well, Six Apart needs your support any way it can get it, I suppose. (Ironic.)

One last message to you before I go. It is ironic that within a few hours I lost you from my friends list and gained a new friend, both gay. But my friends list got a little better because I got rid of one bitter hateful lesbian and gained an amazing beautiful kind and loving lesbian instead. One loves me and is heartbroken that we are apart from each other and knows me in person and the other does not and thinks of me as hateful to gay women. One has known me a year and cried the whole way home when we were separated from each other. Which one do you think knows me better? Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can figure that one out. By the way, she was also the one to point out the unusualness of the couple I mentioned, before I ever did. We discussed it together. Funny how she's never seen me has hostile. It's totally your loss and my gain.

It's totally your loss and my gain.
I see it as mutual gain, actually: you lose a critical observer who objects to your making hateful comments about people who don't conform to your ideas of gender: I lose someone who makes hateful comments about people who don't conform to her ideas of gender. We're both better off. Try to look on the brighter side of life.
